Step 2: Cut Your Steel Pieces

Using your design plan, measure and mark the cutting lines on your steel tubing. Use a scribe for precision. When marking, remember the old rule: "measure twice, cut once."


Put on your safety gear and use the angle grinder with a cutting disc to cut the steel pieces to the required lengths. Try to make your cuts as straight and clean as possible. Set up your welding area on a flat, non-flammable surface, like a concrete floor or a welding table. Have a fire extinguisher nearby as a precaution.

Lay out the pieces of your steel chair frame on your work surface. Start by assembling one of the side frames. Use your speed square and clamps to ensure the corners are perfectly square (90 degrees).
